Built on chunky, pulsating bass and crunchy percussion, Midnight Pool Party’s latest track is almost impossible not to dance to. ‘Nonchalant’ merges the typical shuffling rhythms and beats of EDM with nods towards R&B and hip-hop and a catchy vocal melody. The sidechained pad in the chorus adds another layer of funk as it adds a trippy layer the texture. The duo explains that they “wrote this song because I found myself deep in a social situation that I shouldn't have involved myself in, and all I could do was relax and try and stay cool. So this was my way of expressing that situation in my life”. Following the success of their Motions EP last year, we can expect even bigger things in 2020. - Dan Peeke
